Jason Barickman was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 2012, and represents the 53rd Legislative District.

Jason is a principal at the law offices of Meyer Capel, P.C. His practice focuses on real estate, including acquisitions, sales and developments of office buildings, multi-family residential properties, industrial sites and other residential and commercial properties. 

Jason was born in Streator, Illinois. He was raised on a family farm in Livingston County near Ancona. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1993. Jason also served in the Illinois Army National Guard from 1992 to 2000.

Jason attended Illinois State University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science in 1998. During his senior year, he served as ISU Student Body President. After graduation, Jason spent four years in business, working for Ernst & Young and power company Dynegy.

He enrolled at the University of Illinois College of Law, graduating in May 2005. During law school, he completed his legal internship with the Department of Justice’s Federal Bureau of Prisons and worked as a graduate assistant to Governor Jim Edgar at the Institute of Government and Public Affairs.

Jason and his wife, Kristin, live in Bloomington and have three young children.
