Chris Henning's Profile

Chris Henning
Candidate

Chris Henning, a U.S. Army veteran, attorney, educator, and longtime Mundelein resident, has announced his campaign for Illinois State Senate in the 30th District. A political outsider who has never held elected office, Henning is stepping forward to offer practical leadership and real-world experience at a time when many families feel disconnected from the decisions coming out of Springfield.

Henning’s career reflects a lifelong commitment to service and accountability. He has served in the U.S. Army, practiced law in Illinois since 2001, and taught business law and criminal justice at the college level.

Chris and his wife raised three children in Mundelein, where he has coached AYSO youth soccer and been active in his parish, Santa Maria Del Popolo. He is also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. His deep community ties have shaped his understanding of what families are going through, including rising costs, economic pressures, and concerns about safety and education.

“As a father, husband, and neighbor, I’ve lived the same struggles so many families in our district are facing,” Henning said. “We need leaders who not only understand those challenges but who are willing to fight for real solutions.”

Henning’s commonsense, pro-taxpayer approach stands in sharp contrast to that of his opponent, incumbent Senator Adriane Johnson, who recently voted for a controversial $1.50 per-package delivery tax. The tax impacts everything from diapers to pizza. At a time when working families and small businesses are struggling with inflation and rising costs, Henning called the move "yet another example of how out of touch Springfield has become."

“I’m not a career politician. I’ve spent my life serving, solving problems, and helping people navigate complex systems,” Henning added. “The people of this district deserve a leader who listens and who brings a grounded, common-sense perspective to state government. I’m running to be that voice.”

In 2024 the Daily Herald described Chris Henning as an “intelligent, informed individual, who is not so dogmatic that he can't see the basic humanity at the root of all the disagreement.” This stems from his upbringing, his studies which included logic, ethics, legal ethics, history, legal history, and the philosophy of law.”

Henning said he will work across the aisle to deliver solutions that reflect the values of the 30th District. Above all, he is committed to rebuilding trust in state government by staying focused on the people he serves rather than party lines or special interests.
